А кто знал, что тут под шумок вышла биография Джосса нашего "Ведона"? Я вот не знала. И вообще по-моему это довольно-таки дешевый трюк и вообще рановато. Ну да ладно, возрадуемся, потому что написаны там вроде не только всем известные банальности. Ну то есть как. Куда ж без банальностей, но есть много цитат из интервью разных "наших" людей, читается живенько, И вообще, раскрыли вот тайну шприца Инары!
In truth, Firefly was much darker in Joss’s imagination than it would end up being on screen. One of his first pitches, which he gave to Minear as he wooed him away from Angel to be Firefly’s executive producer, would never see the light of day. Joss explained that as a Companion, Inara has a special syringe. She injects herself before meeting a client, so that if she is raped, the rapist will die a horrible death. In this story, Inara is kidnapped by the savage Reavers. When Mal finally reaches the Reavers’ ship to save her, he finds them all dead. At the end of the episode, after she’s been horribly brutalized, Mal gets down on his knee and takes Inara’s hand, treating her with the respect of an esteemed lady (which he was usually reluctant to give her) as he takes her home to Serenity.
“It was very dark,” Minear remembered. “[Joss] said, ‘These are the kind of stories we’re going to tell.’” But as they had learned with Angel, they couldn’t start the series out with such grim and gritty tales without earning it.

Пока искала отрывок, наткнулась на рецензию этой книги, довольно неблагоприятную:
This is the Whedon of Pascale's book: a mythic hero who exists simply for storytelling, so that his fans can feed off of him. Never mind the man telling these stories. Never mind his humanity, his family, his life. Whedon is like Oz, but Pascale isn't as interested in pulling back the curtain. Never mind him.

На знаю, купить или не купить... С одной стороны, даже банальности перечитывать может быть приятно, и какие-то неизвестные детальки узнать интересно, типа этого шприца. С другой стороны, проблема книги, судя по всему в том, что написана она была тру фонаткой, а не просто близким ему человеком. Если там действительно все только о его работе, и ничего о личности и личной жизни, то интерес это дело читать уменьшается, потому что много ли нового одна тру фонатка может рассказать другой тру фонатке?
